‘On Karamat campus, I learnt torespect diversity’

People in Lucknow are known for their distinctive way of speaking, so we must preserve this quality forever, said educationist Noor Khan during the ‘Nayaab Nageene’ session at Raja Rampal Singh Park during Sanatkada Lucknow Festival, on Saturday. Affectionately known as Noor Aapa, Khan is founding trustee of Sanatkada Trust, a custodian of Lucknow’s cultural, culinary and craft heritage.Encouraged by her husband and mother-in-law, Khan joined Karamat Husain Muslim Girls’ Post Graduate College as principal. “Being in a minority institution taught me to respect diversity on a campus that caters to students even from lower socio-economic strata, for whom education is a struggle,” she added. She spoke about the Lucknow she knew as a child—when Gomti had no embankments and she and her friends sat on its banks.
