To apply for a PAN card offline in India, follow these organized steps:

1. Obtain Form 49A

  • Where to Get:
    • Collect the form from UTIITSL or NSDL offices, Income Tax offices, or authorized agents (banks/post offices).
    • Download Option: You can also download Form 49A from the UTIITSL or NSDL websites, print it, and fill it manually.

2. Fill the Form

  • Details Required:
    • Personal information (name, date of birth, contact details).
    • Father’s name (mandatory for individual applicants).
    • Address (must match the supporting document).
  • Format: Use block letters in black ink. Avoid overwriting or corrections.
  • Signature: Sign in the designated box. For illiterate applicants, a thumb impression (attested by a Magistrate/Notary).

3. Attach Required Documents

  • Self-Attested Copies (carry originals for verification if submitting in person):
    • Proof of Identity: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License, etc.
    • Proof of Address: Aadhaar, Passport, Utility Bills (not older than 3 months), Bank Statement, etc.
    • Proof of Date of Birth: Birth Certificate, Passport, Matriculation Certificate, etc.
    • Photographs: Two recent passport-sized (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm) color photos with white background.

4. Payment of Fees

  • Fee: ₹110 (plus GST if applicable). Confirm the latest fee on UTIITSL/NSDL websites.
  • Payment Method:
    • Demand Draft (DD): Favoring “UTIITSL – PAN” or “NSDL – PAN” based on where you submit.
    • Cheque/Cash: Some centers may accept these (check in advance).

5. Submit the Application

  • Submission Channels:
    • In Person: Visit the nearest UTIITSL/NSDL center.
    • By Post: Send the form, documents, and DD to:
      • UTIITSL Address: UTIITSL PAN Processing Centre, Post Box No. 42, GPO, Mumbai – 400001.
      • NSDL Address: NSDL e-Gov, Income Tax PAN Services Unit, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Pune – 411016.

6. Track Application Status

  • Acknowledgment Slip: Received upon submission. Use the 15-digit number to track:
    • Online: Via UTIITSL/NSDL websites.
    • SMS: Send “PAN<15-digit acknowledgment number>” to 57575 or 5676786.
  • Processing Time: Typically 15–20 working days.

Important Notes

  • Minors/Companies: Use the same form (guardians must sign for minors).
  • Foreign Citizens: Use Form 49AA (available at NSDL).
  • Address Consistency: Ensure documents reflect your current address for PAN delivery.
