Kolkata: At least four police personnel, including an officer in charge, were injured after a group of youths, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked them at a cremation ground in the Gopalpur area of Haroa in North 24 Parganas on Sunday night. Police arrested five accused in connection with the incident.As an altercation started between two groups at a cremation ground, Lebutala outpost OC Shankar Ghosh rushed to the spot. He was surrounded by several youths and allegedly dragged and beaten. Additional police forces later arrived and brought the situation under control.
“A few youths were creating a disturbance at the cremation ground. When on-duty officers tried to restrain them, the youths assaulted them,” said Basirhat SP Hossain Mehdi Rehman.
