Paul O’Brien, assisted by Darren Geaney, will take charge of the team for the remainder of a season in which Neptune find themselves in considerable relegation trouble.
They have picked up just four wins, and sit bottom of the Super League table with 12 points, three behind both Killorglin and Sligo, who sit in 11th and 10th, respectively.
Neptune lost to Limerick Celtics on Sunday. Less than 24 hours earlier, their game against Éanna was abandoned, with the Dublin side leading 22-4, after Cian Heaphy suffered a serious injury. Last month, though, they did manage to take advantage of Ballincollig’s cup victory hangover by claiming a 14-point win.
Kiveney had only been appointed to the role in November when he replaced Keith Daly. After a 0-5 start to the season, Daly had been “relieved of his duties”.
O’Brien took interim charge of the club following Daly’s departure and did coach Neptune to their first win of the season in early November, a 79-75 victory over Sligo.
