NRI woman, 81, found dead in Khanna house.

Ludhiana: An 81-year-old NRI woman was found murdered at her residence in the Nai Abadi area of Khanna on Sunday morning, triggering panic in the locality. The victim’s body was found lying in the bathroom of her house. The deceased has been identified as Jagpal Kaur, wife of retired teacher Surjit Singh.Sources said after retirement, Jagpal had been living in Canada for several years and she had come back to India in October 2025. They added that she was scheduled to return in April and was living alone in the house.Sources further stated that the incident came to light on Sunday morning when the neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the house and immediately informed the police. They added that upon reaching the spot, the police broke open the door and found the woman dead in the bathroom.Meanwhile, police also called for a forensic team to the spot to collect evidence, besides the police started scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area. They added that the investigators were checking whether any cash or valuables were missing from the house, suspecting that robbery could be the motive behind the murder, but that has not been confirmed yet.Police officials said that a murder case had been registered against unknown accused into the matter. Meanwhile, a relative of the deceased told the cops that the deceased was living alone after tenants recently vacated the upper portion of the house. Police sources said this aspect was also under scrutiny.Confirming the development, SHO, Khanna City-I police station Sandeep Kumar suggested that CCTV cameras were being scanned to trace clues and that all possible angles were being investigated.Police sources said initial probe indicated that hands and mouth of the elderly woman might have been tied, which points to the possibility that she was apparently overpowered before being killed.
