Nokia opens R&D facility in Chennai with Rs 270cr investment

Chennai: Nokia recently opened its largest fixed networks research and development laboratory at SIPCOT Siruseri, Chennai, making it one of the largest centres globally for Nokia.The facility is expected to focus on Nokia’s technology innovations in 10G, 25G, 50G and 100G PON, fixed wireless access, Wi-Fi and MDU solutions, as well as access network and home controllers. The centre will focus on next-generation broadband technologies, AI automation, cloud-based network controllers and advanced network solutions.The first phase of this project has an investment of Rs 270 crore, and the company is expected to invest Rs 300 crore in the next phase, according to the state industries minister T R B Rajaa. The memorandum of understanding to establish the lab was exchanged in August 2024 during the official visit of chief minister M K Stalin to the United States.
