Chandigarh: The new mayor of Chandigarh, Saurabh Joshi, will hold his first House meeting on Feb 11. The election of the finance and contact committee (F&CC) and the formation of three mandatory committees will be the key agenda items in the meeting.Since the time to file the nomination papers for the F&CC is by Feb 5 evening, it will be crucial to see how many candidates apply for the same. In the five-member F&CC, if more than five members file nomination papers, then an election is certain, but if only five members come forward for nomination, they will be selected without election. In the past, most of the time, the F&CC is constituted unopposed. Moreover, the three mandatory committees, which will be formed by the mayor, are the road committee, water and sewerage disposal committee, and house tax assessment committee. Besides that, the remaining nine committees will be approved by the UT Administrator on the recommendation of the mayor. Among these three mandatory committees, the road committee and the water and sewerage disposal committee carry financial power and can discuss and approve finances for the works, while the house tax assessment committee discusses crucial property tax-related issues.
