Ludhiana: Neeru Katyal Gupta, a 2016-batch IAS officer, assumed charge as the municipal commissioner of Ludhiana officially on Tuesday, pledging a focus on expedited development and seamless public service delivery.Upon her arrival at the MC’s Zone-D office in Sarabha Nagar, Gupta received a Guard of Honour from a Punjab Police contingent, while senior civic officials and members of the Municipal Employees Sangharsh Committee greeted her. The new commissioner emphasised that her primary objective was to maintain the momentum of existing infrastructure projects.
To ensure a smooth transition, she announced plans to consult with her predecessor, Aaditya Dachalwal. “I will conduct a meeting with the former commissioner to gain insight into ongoing works so that these projects are carried forward and do not stall following the change in leadership,” Gupta said. While the new MC chief noted she was familiar with the city from previous postings, she acknowledged the need to “link the gaps” in her current understanding of Ludhiana’s evolving urban challenges to provide better solutions.Key priorities highlighted by the commissioner include infrastructure, public service, and sustainability. He favours accelerating pending development works, streamlining civic processes for “hassle-free” citizen experiences, and improving the city’s “clean and green” initiatives.Following her arrival, the commissioner held a courtesy meeting with mayor Inderjit Kaur and conducted an initial review session with various department heads to assess the current state of municipal branches. Gupta concluded her first day with an appeal for civic cooperation. “Without public support, it is difficult to achieve significant milestones,” she said, urging residents to partner with the authorities to maintain urban cleanliness.
