The New Delhi World Book Fair 2026 has positioned itself as a pivotal cultural event, attracting participants from over 35 nations. With Qatar proudly serving as the Guest of Honour, the fair celebrates its vibrant heritage while encouraging innovative literary exchanges

The New Delhi World Book Fair 2026 has reaffirmed its growing international stature, establishing itself as a global hub for literary and cultural dialogue. With participation from over 35 countries, the fair is emerging as a key meeting point for publishers, authors and readers worldwide.Qatar, as the Guest of Honour, has attracted significant visitor attention, highlighting its rich literary heritage, publishing excellence and cultural vision. Led by the Ministry of Culture, Qatar’s participation strengthens India-Qatar cultural ties and underscores the importance of literary exchange and cross-civilisational dialogue.Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of the Library Department at the Ministry of Culture, Qatar, said, “Our pavilion presents Qatar’s literary and cultural landscape, showcasing both our intellectual heritage and contemporary thought.

Through translations into Indian languages, we aim to bring our literature closer to Indian readers and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue between our nations.”He added, “The fair provides a platform for Qatari publishers to interact with their Indian counterparts, explore collaborative projects and share expertise in areas such as translation and copyright management. It is an opportunity to strengthen professional networks and enrich cultural cooperation.” Highlighting visitor engagement, Al Buainain said, “The response from Indian visitors has been overwhelming.

Daily footfall at the pavilion continues to grow and audiences are actively exploring our publications, engaging with our panels and showing genuine curiosity about Qatar’s literary and cultural contributions.”The pavilion also features performances by Qatari folk troupes, which Al Buainain noted “allow Indian audiences to experience Qatar’s traditional arts, fostering cultural understanding and reinforcing the relevance of cultural exchange in international relations.”Publishers, authors and cultural institutions from countries including Russia, Japan, Poland, France, Abu Dhabi, Iran, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Chile among others are also participating through book launches, multilingual poetry evenings, cultural showcases, children’s literature sessions and discussions.The fair will continue until January 18, reflecting its international character and India’s cultural outreach. Spain is participating as the Focus Country this year. The event demonstrates how books, languages and ideas serve as instruments of cultural diplomacy, fostering translation initiatives, collaboration and long-term partnerships while strengthening India’s position as a global hub in the international knowledge and publishing ecosystem.
