Ludhiana: The Division No. 7 police have booked a Mansa resident for abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a 25-year-old woman advocate Diljot Sharma, whose body was found under suspicious circumstances on Tajpur Road on Jan 5.It is said that the woman was reportedly in a live-in relationship with the accused. The police said a suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Investigating officer ASI Krishan Lal said an FIR had been registered against the accused under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS on the complaint of the victim’s mother, Veerpal Kaur. The accused will soon be arrested, the cops said.According to the woman’s family, Diljot had shifted to Ludhiana about one-and-a-half years ago and was practising as a lawyer. Meanwhile, she came in contact with one Jagdish Singh and the two began living together. The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was under severe mental stress as the accused had started living with another woman, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. The family also expressed suspicion over the contents of the suicide note and maintained that Diljot did not take the extreme step on her own. However, a friend of the deceased had earlier told the police that Diljot was deeply disturbed in recent days and might have ended her life due to personal distress. The police said a detailed investigation was conducted before invoking charges of abetment to suicide, nearly 25 days after the incident. “Further probe is underway to establish the sequence of events and fix responsibility,” ASI Krishan Lal added.
