Navi Mumbai: Ulwe police have arrested a 66-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, whose mother was in jail for trafficking. Arjun Rajane, senior inspector of Ulwe said the accused has been identified as Iftekar Shaikh, residing in Elegant Villa in sector 9, Ulwe. The minor was staying alone while her mother was in jail from Aug till Nov last year. The accused took advantage of the situation and sexually assaulted the girl by taking her to his apartment between Sept and Oct last year. He demanded sexual favours from her and touched her inappropriately. As Shaikh had threatened to harm her if she disclosed about his sexual acts to anyone, she remaind silent.
SPI Rajane stated, “After her mother was released on bail, the girl narrated her ordeal to her mother. Hence, her mother took the girl to Ulwe police station and registered an FIR under BNS sections for rape, and criminal intimidation along with Pocso Act. Shaikh was arrested on Wednesday and produced before court that remanded him to police custody till Feb 6.”
