Mumbai: A police official from Panchavati in Nashik was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to help a complainant in an accident case registered against him. The police official identified as Sandeep Gangurde who is attached to the Panchavati police station has been booked under prevention of corruption act.As per the complaint, Gangurde had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant to “settle” an accident-related case registered against him. After negotiations, the demand was allegedly reduced to Rs 5,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint.Based on the verification report, the ACB laid a trap on February 4, 2026. During the trap, the accused accepted the bribe amount from the complainant inside the police station premises. However, after accepting the money, Gangurde reportedly became suspicious and attempted to evade the trap team by fleeing to the bathroom of the police station.ACB officials immediately chased him and apprehended him red-handed. The tainted bribe amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered and seized during the operation.
