Chennai: With 2026 assembly election approaching, the Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Association submitted a 17-point charter of demands, seeking their inclusion in poll manifesto of political parties.Among the demands submitted to DMK zonal chairman N Chandran, is the conversion of overhead electricity lines to underground cables in Nanganallur and Alandur. “With frequent outages and safety risks from overhead lines, underground cabling has become unavoidable,” said federation president S Chandra Bose. The association sought the installation of a 110 KV substation at Nanganallur instead of the existing 33 KV facility, citing a manifold increase in power load in recent years. They called for the renovation of Adambakkam lake and the development of a park with a walking track, besides the creation of a dedicated parking facility for pilgrims visiting Anjeneyar temple. “Despite being a densely populated locality, we have very few quality public spaces. The lake restoration and a park will benefit thousands of families,” said federation’s general secretary V V Kumaravelu. To ease traffic congestion and improve road safety, the memorandum seeks installation of traffic signals at the junction of 23rd Street, Thillai Ganga Nagar and the Ring Road, and at the Meenambakkam subway on GST Road. It also sought a subway link between Pazhavanthangal and 5th Main Road, and a connecting road between Ramnagar and Puzhuthivakkam railway station.Among the major infrastructure demands is the construction of a road overbridge (ROB) over the Thillai Ganga Nagar subway, which the federation said would benefit more than three lakh residents.
