Nagaland University honours 5 chemists with Lifetime Achievement Awards

Dimapur: Nagaland University conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards on five eminent academicians during the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Chemistry in Multidisciplinary Research (ICCMR–2026), held from Feb 18-20 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami.The honours were presented to prof AK Mallik, prof VS Raja, prof MA Quraishi, prof M Indira Devi, and prof Nitin Chattopadhyay in recognition of their outstanding contributions to chemical sciences and allied fields.

Mallik, a distinguished professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, has made pioneering advances in materials chemistry, nanotechnology, and surface science, with his research on nanomaterials and electrochemical sensors finding applications in energy storage and environmental monitoring. Raja of IIT Bombay is internationally acclaimed for his work in corrosion science and engineering, with his research group providing critical insights into corrosion mechanisms and protection strategies across industrial sectors.Quraishi, formerly of IIT-BHU Varanasi, is a global authority in corrosion science and green chemistry, credited with developing eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors and authoring more than 380 publications with over 15,000 citations. Devi, senior professor at Nagaland University, has specialised in physical chemistry, particularly lanthanide complexation and nanomaterials, and has served as dean of the school of sciences. Nitin Chattopadhyay, former professor and dean at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, is renowned for his research in photophysics, photochemistry, and fluorescence sensing, and continues to contribute as a CSIR emeritus scientist.The three-day international conference brought together leading scholars to explore chemistry’s role in multidisciplinary research, underscoring Nagaland University’s commitment to advancing scientific inquiry and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
