Dimapur: Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio officially launched the digitisation of old manual birth and death certificates in his chamber in Kohima on Saturday, reports Bhadra Gogoi.During the launch, Rio stressed that the initiative will streamline service delivery, ensure efficient and accurate data, improve citizen access to essential documents, and assist the govt in making informed public policy decisions. Commending the efforts of the economics & statistic department in making the digitisation possible, he urged the citizens for timely registration of births and deaths.Following the directive of the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI), the department introduced online registration of births and deaths in the state in April 2022.This initiative marks a significant step towards modernising vital records management and ensuring greater efficiency and accessibility for citizens.The department has announced that the issuance of manual certificates will soon be discontinued, with the system transitioning to 100% online registration and digitisation of old manual birth and death certificates . The move is aimed at streamlining processes, reducing paperwork and providing citizens with faster and more reliable services.The department said the digitisation of old manual certificates has become essential to ensure that all records are seamlessly integrated into the new online system, thereby safeguarding their authenticity and accessibility for future use.
