Murder convict sentenced to life imprisonment by Kurukshetra court

Kurukshetra: The court of additional sessions judge, Kurukshetra, on Tuesday sentenced a murder convict to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 50,000. The convict was identified as Ganesh, a resident of Motihari district in Bihar. The court held him guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for committing murder. In case of failure to pay the fine, the court ordered an additional 6 months of simple imprisonment.Providing details, Kurukshetra deputy public prosecutor Deepak Aggarwal said that the case dates back to July 5, 2022, when Ram Chandra, originally a resident of Motihari district and presently living in Ambala Cantonment, lodged a complaint at Pehowa Sadar police station. In his statement, Ram Chandra said that his elder son Rajesh Kumar died around 3 years earlier. Rajesh’s wife Munni Devi and her children were living in a rented house in Ishaq village of Kurukshetra district. The accused Ganesh, also a native of the same village in Bihar, was residing in the same area. On the night of July 3, 2022, Munni Devi fed her children and went to sleep. At around 12:15 am, 1 of her sons woke up and found that his mother was not on the bed. While searching the house, Munni Devi was found lying unconscious in the bathroom. Neighbours were informed, but she had already died. The police were subsequently alerted. Following the complaint, a murder case was registered at Pehowa Sadar police station and investigated by then SHO Inspector Nirmal Singh. The post-mortem examination was conducted at LNJP Hospital, Kurukshetra. During the investigation, the accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody. After completion of the investigation, the challan was presented before the court. After regular hearings, on February 11, 2026, the court, relying on witness testimonies and material evidence, convicted Ganesh and awarded him life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000.MSID:: 128210646 413 |
