Aizawl: Preparations for the launch of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have been more or less completed by Mizoram election officials, as the Election Commission of India (ECI) expects the SIR to begin in 22 states and UTs, including Mizoram, from April, officials of the state Chief Electoral Officer office said on Sunday. The officials said there has been a vast difference between the last SIR in 2004 compared to the current situation in Mizoram. While there were only 795 polling stations in the state during 2004, there are now 1,353 stations in the 40 assembly constituencies.
They said that rationalisation of polling stations to ensure that each polling station will have voters not more than 1,200 and the proposal of the state has been approved by the ECI and has been updated in staging database of ERONET.“Workshop for the political parties will be organised on February 27,” they added.
