Mizoram CM to present state budget on Feb 19

Aizawl: Mizoram CM Lalduhoma, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the state annual budget for 2026-2027 and the supplementary demand for grants for 2025-2026 in the state legislative assembly on Feb 19, following a decision taken by the assembly business advisory committee (BAC) chaired by Speaker Lalbiakzama on Thursday, the speaker told TOI.This will be the third budget to be presented by Lalduhoma since the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) assumed power in the state from Dec 8, 2023.Lalbiakzama said the BAC also decided that the budget session, the sixth session of the ninth state assembly, will continue till March 12 unless the House later decides to extend or curtail it.Governor Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh will deliver his customary address on Feb 17, the first day of the session, and the motion of thanks will be discussed and debated the next day.General discussion on the budget will be taken up on Feb 23 and 24, followed by govt business and demand-wise discussions.The BAC comprises parliamentary affairs minister Vanlalhlana, leader of opposition Lalchhandama Ralte, BJP legislature party leader K Beichhua, Congress’s C Ngunlianchunga, and senior officials of the assembly secretariat.The assembly secretariat has received 749 starred questions for oral replies and 287 unstarred questions for written replies to be laid on the table of the House. Officials said five amendment bills have been received so far.The upcoming budget session is expected to be stormy, with opposition parties seeking to raise the alleged land scam linked to acquisition of land at the Lengpui area near Aizawl for an Indian Air Force establishment.
