Hyderabad: A three-year-old boy, who had been missing for a week, was found dead in a canal in Nirmal on Saturday. Police said there was no foul play and suspect that the child may have drowned while playing with a kite.According to police, the boy, Ashvith, went missing on Jan 10 while playing outside his house. After he failed to return, his family lodged a complaint, following which police teams were formed to trace him. On Saturday, locals noticed the boy’s body floating in a canal near Bhagya Nagar Colony and alerted the police. The body was recovered and shifted for post-mortem examination. Police said Ashvith was last seen by family members and neighbours playing with a kite. On the day he went missing, the child had reportedly told his mother that he was going out to meet his father. He was last seen about 100 metres away from his residence. An open plot near the locality leads to a wide canal, where the body was eventually found. Police said they had earlier searched the same canal but were unable to locate the child at that time. The body surfaced at the same spot after seven days. The boy’s father is a migrant worker who moved to Nirmal six months ago. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and are awaiting the post-mortem report for further clarity.
