Bengaluru: A 16-year-old girl, who dressed like a boy to steal from homes, was detained with a minor boy, and their female relative was arrested on charges of breaking into a locked house and fleeing with gold, silver and cash.During the investigation, the minor girl told police that she had deliberately dressed like a boy in a bid to misguide them. “The minor girl was handed over to the state women’s home and the boy to a juvenile home. The woman was sent to judicial custody to Bengaluru central prison,” police said.An autorickshaw driver, Sangamesh, from Agrahara in Sampigehalli, filed a complaint on Jan 13 that some miscreants had broken into his house and stolen 30g of gold, 60g of silver and Rs 15,000 in cash. The Sampigehalli police team collected CCTV footage from the area and noticed a woman riding with two boys who were later seen entering Sangamesh’s house. Police tracked the suspects to their residence on Tannery Road. Confessing to the crime, the accused returned a portion of the stolen cash and silver. They had already pledged the gold, and it will be recovered, police said. “Until entering the house of the suspects, we thought the woman had two boys with her. But we realised one of the minors was a girl, and she had intentionally dressed like a boy to mislead us. The woman and her minor accomplices were booked in similar theft cases by Nelamangala police recently. There are a few other similar cases registered against them in different parts of the city,” an officer said.
