Ahmedabad: A 16-year-old Class 12 science student from the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad was rescued by police at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal after being allegedly raped and abducted by a person who she had met online. Police said, the minor was reportedly lured away by a 22-year-old daily-wage labourer whom she met through the online game Free Fire. The duo had been in contact for nearly 18 months, initially through the gaming platform and later via WhatsApp, he added.According to police, the accused travelled from West Bengal to Ahmedabad on Jan 22 and allegedly raped the girl after finding her alone at home. The following day, he lured her into boarding a train from Kalupur railway station with the intention of taking her to his home state. After the girl’s family reported her missing, Vejalpur police traced her using her phone location. Working in coordination with railway police, authorities intercepted the train at Kharagpur, rescued the minor, and arrested the accused.Investigations revealed that the accused had visited Ahmedabad on previous occasions and had allegedly assaulted the girl twice before this incident. M Division ACP A B Valand confirmed the arrest and noted that a medical examination of the accused was currently underway. Police said that the girl was handed over to her family.
