Pune: A man, working as a helper on a minitruck, was killed and driver of the vehicle suffered severe injuries after a dumper hit their vehicle on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass around 2.40am on Sunday.The helper (28) was driving the truck, while its driver was at the co-driver’s seat at the time of the accident.
The Hinjewadi police registered a case of causing death by negligence against the dumper driver. The police identified the deceased as Mayur Ghorpade of Wadgaon Dhayari. The injured person, Somnath Dhake (35) of Wadgaon Dhayari, is undergoing treatment in a hospital.An officer from the Hinjewadi police said Dhake worked as the driver of a minitruck, while Ghorpade was his helper. Late on Saturday night, they loaded 100 boxes of drinking water bottles in their vehicle at Kamshet and were on their way to Katraj for delivery. “Ghorpade was driving the vehicle, while Dhake was sitting next to him,” the officer said.He said when they reached Tathawade around 2.40am on Sunday, a truck hit their vehicle from the rear. Ghorpade lost control of the wheel and the vehicle turned on its side. “Ghorpade fainted after he suffered severe head injuries. Dhake’s head and legs were also injured,” he said.The officer said residents of the area took the duo to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced Ghorpade dead. “We arrested the driver from Giridih district in Jharkhand,” the officer said.
