Chennai: Hindu religious and charitable endowments minister and Chennai metropolitan developmental authority chairman P K Sekarbabu distributed free laptops to students under the ‘Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil’ scheme on Saturday.The laptops were given to 186 third-year students of Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Arts and Science College at a function held at Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School campus in Kolathur, Ward 66.

The scheme aims to help students make use of opportunities in information technology and artificial intelligence.Chief minister M K Stalin had launched the ‘Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil’ scheme on Jan 5, 2026, at the Chennai Trade Centre, announcing the distribution of 10 lakh laptops to students studying arts, science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine.Officials, college staff, elected representatives, and students attended the event.
