Metro 4 parapet collapse in Mumbai: Victim’s body to be flown to Varanasi today; family accepts ₹45 lakh compensation for now

Mumbai: The body of Ramdhan Yadav (50), who died in the Metro Line 4 concrete block collapse incident, will be flown to Varanasi on Tuesday, and then taken to Barsathi village in Jaunpur, where he was the sarpanch, for the last rites. The relatives had initially refused to claim the body, demanding that at least Rs 1 crore from the Rs 5 crore penalty imposed on the contractor be paid to the family. However, after discussions with authorities, they agreed to take custody of the body. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) bore the cost of transporting the remains by air ambulance, and two relatives will accompany the body on the flight.

Sarvesh Yadav, a relative, said the family has accepted Rs 45 lakh compensation for now, but considers the amount “severely insufficient” to support Ramdhan’s three daughters. “The entire family back home is shaken; we had to take the body back. Our local politicians have promised support, and we will continue this fight in whatever way we can,” he said. The administration has already provided Rs 5 lakh in cash and a cheque of Rs 20 lakh, while MMRDA said the total assistance amounts to Rs 45 lakh, excluding insurance payout. An additional Rs 12–15 lakh from the insurance company is expected soon.Meanwhile, the medical crisis continues for the other injured persons. Rajkumar Yadav (45) remains in critical condition, while Mahendra Yadav underwent surgery on Monday evening.
