Prayagraj: During Magh Mela 2026, Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division has put in place extensive medical facilities at key railway stations to ensure the safety, health and convenience of lakhs of pilgrims travelling to the Prayagraj region.
Special arrangements have been made considering the heavy passenger footfall during the religious fair.Primary medical aid booths are established at Prayag Junction, Phaphamau Junction, Varanasi Junction and Ayodhya Dham stations. At Prayag Junction, a dedicated four-bed Mela medical centre has been set up on the first entry side. To handle emergency situations, two ambulances are deployed at Prayag Junction and one ambulance at Phaphamau Junction.
All medical facilities remained operational from first day before each major bathing festival till the second day after to effectively manage peak rush periods.Trained medical personnel are deployed on a 24×7 basis at major stations under Lucknow Division to provide immediate medical assistance. Uptil now, during the ongoing Magh Mela period, medical services are extended to 1,842 pilgrims and passengers, most of whom were treated for minor injuries, fatigue, cold, cough and other common health issues.The medical arrangements are implemented under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Lucknow Division, Sunil Kumar Verma.Till date, the Mela medical centre at Prayag Junction alone provided primary treatment to 1,330 pilgrims. In serious cases, 20 patients received emergency medical care, of whom five were referred to higher medical institutions for specialised treatment.First-aid booths were also set up at various platform areas, and information about medical services was widely disseminated through signboards, public announcements and railway staff to ensure easy accessibility for passengers.
