Durgapur/Kolkata: The Durgapur gang-rape survivor, a medical student of a private college in Durgapur, has testified before a local court about her ordeal on Friday and Saturday.

The 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a forest area outside the campus by a fellow student and other unknown men. The defence is likely to cross-question the survivor on Feb 7. Survivor’s counsel Partha Ghosh said, “We are hopeful that justice will prevail as the survivor completed all legal formalities that are required to make this a watertight case.”In Oct last year, Durgapur Police filed an 861-page charge sheet in the gang-rape case within 20 days of the crime, accusing the survivor’s fellow student, Wasef Ali, of rape and concealing evidence. Three other accused — Nasiruddin Sk, Firdaus Sk and Apu Bauri — face charges of gang rape, dacoity and extortion. Two others — Sk Riazuddin and Sk Safiq — who have confessed their crime before a magistrate, were charged with molestation, dacoity and extortion.
