Officials attributed the record collection largely to a property tax amnesty scheme — Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) 2025 —26. Taxpayers were offered a waiver on interest and penalties if they paid the 2025–26 property tax along with the dues of the previous 5 years.“With the implementation of the scheme, many taxpayers who earlier filed incorrect property tax returns and paid lower tax amounts came forward to regularise their dues,” an official said. The scheme encouraged taxpayers who had paid property tax only once or twice to clear their liabilities, mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said. “Approximately 1.7 lakh taxpayers used the scheme, contributing Rs 933 crore in revenue,” he added.
