MC chief pushes for waste segregation & composting for a neat Swachh score

Panchkula: Municipal commissioner Vinay Kumar has directed officials to step up waste segregation, streamline composting of biodegradable waste, and strengthen documentation — all key parameters under the Swachh Survekshan 2026 assessment. He emphasised that outcome-based performance and strict adherence to guidelines will be crucial for improving Panchkula’s sanitation ranking. Priority areas highlighted include better source-level segregation, improving the quality of compost, and ensuring scientific handling of plastic, inert and residual waste. The commissioner reviewed environmental safeguards, machinery efficiency and compliance with prescribed sanitation and green norms. He examined the entire waste-processing chain — from source segregation to mechanical segregation at the Patvi plant, composting of wet waste, and scientific treatment of legacy waste, including old plastic and other non-biodegradable material.Stressing on consistent monitoring, timely corrective actions and close coordination with the facility operator, he said efficient segregation and robust composting systems remain critical to strengthening the city’s cleanliness standards and improving its overall ranking.
