Kanpur: The district administration blacklisted the organising firm of the Chief Minister’s Mass Wedding Scheme after mismanagement surfaced during a mass wedding programme on Dec 11 held at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology campus.

The firm was also banned from working in any govt department for the next 5 years.Chief development officer Diksha Jain said after irregularities surfaced in the programme, a four-member joint investigation committee was formed under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (City). The committee report revealed several serious shortcomings in the organisation, based on which the action was taken, said the CDO.The investigation revealed that despite the work order issued for 635 wedding couples, arrangements were inadequate for even 561 couples present at the venue and their family members. Against the presence of about 12,342 people, the firm arranged food for only 2,100 to 2,300 people, which too was not as per the prescribed menu. Family members also had to face difficulties regarding seating arrangements, refreshments and other facilities.Major deficiencies were found in puja materials and event management. The number of altars was less than the prescribed number and number photographers was also low. Besides, shortage was also were recorded in garlands, laddoos and dry fruits. Arrangements like LED screens, decorations, banners and standees also remained incomplete. The committee stated in its report that the arrangements were only about 45% of the total requirement.

Due to the firm’s negligence, couples and their family had to face chaos. After the firm submitted the bill, payment was to be made only after deductions proportionate to the deficiencies, it said.After approval from district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, the organising firm National Federation of Farmers Procurement, Processing and Retailing Cooperatives of India Limited was blacklisted under the CM’s Mass Wedding Scheme sending a clear message that negligence and irregularities in public welfare schemes would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
