Mauvin: Helmets for pillion riders only after April

Panaji: Transport minister Mauvin Godinho said on Wednesday that helmet use for pillion riders would be mandatory in line with central govt rules. However, he said enforcement would be phased in to give citizens time to adjust.“We have to follow central govt guidelines, which is why pillion riders will have to wear helmets. But I told the RTOs not to press people so soon,” the minister said.“That is why we are giving two months’ relaxation until April,” Godinho added. He added that central govt will amend the Motor Vehicles Act (MV Act) and roll out uniform guidelines for cab aggregators that will be implemented across all states.
