Man, wife found dead at home in suspected suicide case, note hints at financial distress

New Delhi: A 55-year-old man and his wife were found dead at their residence in north-east Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar on Thursday, in what police suspect is a case of suicide by the couple. A note found at their home hinted at financial distress, brought by the burden of mounting loans, police said. Their two sons were not at home when the couple died. “The sons, aged 25-26, went out for dinner, and when they came back after an hour, they found the parents unconscious and called the cops,” a police source said.

A call regarding a suspected suicide reached police around 12.05 am on Friday. A team rushed to the house in West Jyoti Nagar, where the bodies were found in separate rooms.“A husband and his wife were found dead in separate rooms in their house,” a senior police officer said. The crime and forensic teams have collected evidence. There was no sign of forced entry or foul play that the investigators noticed. The bodies were sent to GTB Hospital for post-mortem.Police said that in the alleged suicide note, the couple mentioned the loans they had taken and their inability to cope with the financial instability that followed. The contents of the note are being verified, the officer added. Police said that the couple used to run a small factory earlier, but that was shut down, leaving them without any stable source of income. Their children were also engaged in small jobs to support the household, but the family continued to struggle financially.Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated in the case. Section 194 deals with suicide investigation and reporting.Police said further investigation was under way, and the statements of family members and neighbours were being recorded.
