Vadodara: Residents of the Panigate area in the walled city saw a man stab another to death in full public view on Tuesday night. Hussain Zulfikar was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, Vishal Kahar, 35, after the duo got into an argument, opposite the old Panigate police station. Zulfikar was rushed to SSG Hospital but doctors there declared him dead. Police said Kahar was arrested within hours of the stabbing. Zulfikar and Kahar had been friends for a long time but a rift had surfaced over the former’s wife. Zulfikar had separated from his wife three years ago and their divorce proceedings were underway. Meanwhile, Kahar developed a relationship with her. This caused tension between the duo. “Hussain knew about Kahar’s relationship with his wife and they had argued about it several times. On Tuesday night, they had another fight over the phone,” said Abhishek Gupta, DCP (Zone 3). Kahar went to Panigate Road to meet Zulfikar, where the argument continued. In a flash, Kahar pulled out a knife and stabbed Zulfikar four or five times on the busy road. Some passersby tried to intervene but Kahar kept stabbing Zulfikar, before fleeing. Police said that Zulfikar, an AC mechanic, was upset about Kahar’s relationship with his estranged wife. Kahar, who drives an autorickshaw for a living, is married and has two children. “Kahar was produced in court and was remanded in police custody for two days. As of now, no one else seems to be involved in the incident. The investigation will now focus on recovering the murder weapon and Kahar’s blood-soaked clothes,” Gupta told TOI. Police sources said Kahar is a history-sheeter with cases of assault and other offences registered against him. “Kahar is known to be a hot-headed man in his locality,” a source in the police said.
