Cuttack: A 32-year-old man was allegedly shot dead following a heated argument during a feast at Nuapada Press colony here on Wednesday evening. Police said the deceased was identified as Soumyaranjan Jena, a resident of the area.Police said that around 3 pm, an altercation broke out between Jena and two persons at the gathering. The argument escalated quickly, following which an unidentified assailant allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on Jena from close range. Jena collapsed on the spot, triggering panic among those present at the feast. Locals immediately rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and efforts are on to trace and apprehend the accused, who fled the scene after the shooting.DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the incident occurred following a heated exchange during a feast. One person allegedly fired at the victim. Teams have been formed to nab the culprits at the earliest. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
