Man sets his house on fire after fight with brother-in-law

Kanpur: Dinesh Pal, a private employee and a resident of Gangaganj in Panki, set fire to a room on the upper floor of his house after a quarrel with his brother-in-law on Saturday afternoon. The fire spread to other parts of the house, and fire brigade personnel brought it under control after strenuous efforts, police said.Neighbours saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor of Dinesh’s house and informed the police control room. Station officer Shravan Tiwari reached the spot and informed the fire brigade. By then, the fire had spread to the upper floor. The fire brigade personnel who reached the spot brought the fire under control after strenuous efforts, but household items kept in the house were reduced to ashes.Police said Dinesh lived with his father Shiv Ratan Pal, who had retired from the electricity department, and his wife Poonam Pal. Dinesh got married about a year ago. According to neighbours, he often had disputes with his wife over minor issues. His wife went to her maternal home in Unnao with her brother Manoj Pal about two months ago, and the couple often quarrelled over the phone.When the police questioned Dinesh, he admitted to setting the fire himself. Police then brought him to the police station.Dinesh said his father had gone to attend a family function, and his brother-in-law Manoj Pal called him at 11 am and hurled abuses at him. He said he then drank alcohol at home, poured petrol in the room and set it on fire, and went outside the house. Police took action against Dinesh for breach of peace. Panki inspector Manoj Bhadauria said, “There was no loss of life in the fire. There was a dispute between the brother-in-law and sister’s husband after which the youth set fire to his house, action for breach of peace has been taken for now.“
