Man robbed, duped of nearly 1 lakh

Lucknow: A case of robbery and digital fraud was registered at Sarojini Nagar police station on Thursday after a Kanpur resident alleged that unidentified men lured him into an SUV, robbed him of cash and valuables, and later siphoned off nearly Rs 1 lakh from his Google Pay account.The complainant, Fida Hussain of Syed Nagar, Rawatpur in Kanpur Nagar, said the incident occurred on Feb 3 morning when he was waiting near Scooter India Chauraha to return home after visiting relatives in Lucknow. Hussain said an SUV stopped near him, with 4 occupants already inside. The occupants offered to drop him in to Kanpur. However, instead of taking the usual route, they allegedly drove him through isolated and unfamiliar roads, threatened him, and robbed him of Rs 5,400 in cash, a wristwatch and his mobile. The victim claimed that the accused also took away his driving licence. He alleged that the gang then took him to a Jan Seva Kendra and forcibly made him withdraw Rs 1 lakh from his Google Pay account. They later abandoned him in the Rania area of Kanpur. The victim managed to reach home and subsequently approached Sarojini Nagar police. Police said CCTV footage from nearby areas was being examined to trace the vehicle and identify the accused.
