Gurgaon: A 45-year-old labourer from West Bengal died in a hit-and-run accident near a liquor shop in Sector 66 late on Thursday night.Reju Molla of South Dinajpur lived as a tenant in Ramgarh and worked in the city.

According to the complaint filed by his nephew, the two were returning home from work around 12.15am when a vehicle hit Molla from behind in front of the liquor shop in Sector 66.

“After the vehicle hit Molla, he was thrown onto the road, and the vehicle continued to move forward, dragging him for a considerable distance before the driver fled the spot,” an officer said. The police officer added that the preliminary investigation suggested the victim was dragged for around 20 meters by the vehicle.

“Injuries on the body and marks on the road indicate that the vehicle did not stop immediately after hitting the man,” the officer said, adding that the exact sequence of events will be established after further forensic examination and analysis of CCTV footage. Police said a passer-by alerted a night patrol team after noticing a man lying unconscious on the road. “A private ambulance was arranged by the cops, and the victim was rushed to the govt hospital in Sector 10, where doctors declared him dead during treatment,” the officer further said.The body was subsequently shifted to the mortuary for autopsy. The victim’s nephew later approached the police station and submitted a written complaint, seeking legal action against the unknown driver.Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under sections 281 (rash and negligent driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. “Multiple teams were formed to trace the vehicle involved,” a senior officer said.
