Varanasi: A man who disguised as woman to loot on the highway was arrested by Kon police in Sonbhadra district after an encounter on Wednesday morning. Police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for his arrest. An illegal weapon and cartridges were recovered from his possession.According to reports, during night patrol, Kon police received information that some criminals disguised as women had planned to strike passersby at night near Kanhar River bridge on the Kon-Tilgudwa main road.Kon police, led by SO Sanjeev Kumar Singh, raided the spot 5 am. Seeing the police team, the criminals tried to flee towards the jungle and, finding themselves surrounded, opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory action by police, Krishna alias Krishnadev Singh, resident of Naudiha, sustained bullet injury on the leg, while his accomplice escaped.During interrogation, Singh admitted that he and his aides disguised as women and stopped vehicles on highways and main roads. They lured vehicle drivers to the jungle or deserted places and robbed them of cash and other valuables at gunpoint. Out of shame and fear of defamation, many victims did not complain to the police.Police recovered an illegal pistol of 315 bore, one empty and one live cartridge. The injured person was sent to govt hospital for treatment. A case under sections 109(1) BNS and 3/25/27 Arms Act was registered at the Kon police station.
