Man killed in elephant attack in Salpatra forest

Kharagpur: A man was killed by an elephant in the Salpatra forest area of the Ramnara Beat in the Manikpara Range on Saturday morning. The incident happened when Sheikh Harun (57) was cycling on a forest road at around 7am. He suddenly encountered an elephant on his path, and when he tried to flee, the jumbo wrapped its trunk around him and slammed him on the ground, resulting in his death.Forest department sources said a herd of 40-45 elephants had entered the area from the Chandura Range of the Medinipur Forest Division early Friday. Three more elephants have entered the area on Saturday morning, sources added.
