Lucknow: A man from Delhi was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly smuggling heroin worth over Rs 10 crore into India from Kathmandu, Nepal.The accused was caught while travelling on a Kathmandu–Delhi bus, which was intercepted near the Indira Canal in Chinhat, Lucknow, around midnight on Friday. According to officials, the DRI team conducted a detailed search of the suspect’s luggage and recovered 5,209 grams of a white powder packed in four packets. A field test confirmed the substance to be heroin. The seized consignment is valued at approximately Rs 10.41 crore in the international market. During questioning, the accused claimed he was making his first attempt at smuggling and had been offered Rs 30,000 to transport the contraband. He also told investigators that he was enrolled in a distance-learning course and had been lured into the operation. The man was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. He was produced before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to identify the network involved.
