Pune: A 30-year-old ragpicker was arrested from Mhalunge on the charge of bludgeoning his live-in partner to death in the early hours of Saturday. The Bavdhan police said the accused thrashed the woman with a stick and later bludgeoned her with a large stone. An officer from the Bavdhan police said the victim (32) lived with the accused after the death of her husband. “The couple used to pick up rags for a living,” he said.He said late on Friday night the couple had a dispute over sharing the money they had earned after selling scrap. “The accused abused his partner. He thrashed her with a stick on her head, neck and stomach. When she fell down, the accused bludgeoned her to death with a large stone,” the officer said.He said when the duo’s neighbour tried to stop him from killing his partner, the accused thrashed her too. “The woman’s fingers fractured in the assault,” the officer said.He said the man was charged under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
