Rourkela: Police on Sunday arrested a 55-year-old man for the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Sundargarh district. The alleged incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the child was alone at home. Hearing the girl’s screams, a woman neighbour rushed to the house and tried to intervene but the accused even allegedly assaulted her. The woman’s shouts drew attention of locals, who rushed and apprehended the man. The girl’s parents were informed, following which her father lodged a police complaint. Medical examinations of both the girl and the accused were conducted on Sunday. Police later arrested the man, and probe is on. “We have arrested the accused and investigations are on,” said inspector R K Nayak.
