Patna: A clerk, working at a construction site on the Patna University premises, was arrested on Friday evening for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman cook inside the project office, a day after he reportedly molested her and clashed with her husband when confronted. The survivor, traumatised by the assault, attempted suicide but was rescued by a construction worker, who alerted others and the police.According to the police, the accused was identified as Amarnath, a resident of Chhatauni in East Champaran district. The incident occurred while the woman was working in the kitchen. On Thursday, he had allegedly molested her, following which her husband confronted him, leading to an altercation. When the woman returned to work on Friday, the accused allegedly locked her inside a room and raped her.City SP (Central) Diksha said, “Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR and launched immediate action. Recognising the seriousness and sensitive nature of the case, the forensic science laboratory team was called for a scientific examination. The team conducted a thorough inspection and collected vital evidence. The room where the incident occurred was sealed, and the accused was apprehended.”Addressing the media on Saturday, the SP said, “The investigation is underway to determine whether anyone else at the site was aware of his prior behaviour or the harassment. All collected evidence and witness statements are being processed for a prompt charge sheet.”
