Silchar: An incident of domestic violence rocked the Patharkandi area late on Wednesday night, after a 33-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband following a long-standing dispute over dowry.The incident took place at Eraligul village under the jurisdiction of the Patharkandi police station. The victim, identified as Khairun Nessa, was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by her husband, Saad Uddin, after an altercation.

According to police and family members, the couple quarrelled frequently over the years. The victim’s relatives alleged that Khairun had been subjected to sustained physical and mental abuse over dowry demands throughout their 16-year marriage.

On Wednesday night, an argument reportedly escalated, during which the accused allegedly struck her multiple times on the head, killing her on the spot.After the attack, Saad fled the area and is currently absconding.Police rushed to the scene after being alerted by locals and recovered the body, which was sent for autopsy to the Karimganj civil hospital. A case has been registered, and a manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the accused, police officials said.Khairun is survived by four minor children. The victim’s family has demanded exemplary punishment for the accused, describing the killing as the result of years of unchecked domestic abuse.
