Man hacks brother to death over property row, buries body inside house

Jhansi: A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hacking his elder brother to death over a property dispute and burying the body inside the house in the Biharipura area of Jhansi late Thursday.Tariq Beg, 38, a management graduate working in a private firm, went missing on Feb 10. He lived with his brother Masariq in their newly built house under the Premnagar police station.Five days after Tariq went missing, Masariq approached the police. An investigation revealed the victim’s phone was last used inside their house.Tariq’s maternal uncle, Mohd Salim, also contacted the police on Thursday, suspecting Masariq’s involvement in the case. The accused was taken into custody and, after interrogation, confessed to the crime. He led the police to his house and pointed out the spot in the backyard where he had buried the body.The body was exhumed in the presence of a magistrate and the forensic team, and was later sent for the post-mortem.Police suspect the accused killed his brother over a property dispute, wanting sole ownership of the house. His wife was away when the murder took place.A case was registered against Masariq under BNS Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 238(1) (disappearance of evidence), said SSP BBGTS Murthy.
