Colva: The principal sessions court at Margao sentenced Bharat Bhomaram Choudhary, a resident of Borda, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to kill his employer, Dungraram Lalit Choudhary in Jan 2023. He was also fined Rs 1 lakh.If Bharat is unable to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional two years of simple imprisonment. The court directed that Rs 50,000 from the fine be paid to Dungraram as compensation.Bharat, who was employed at Dungraram’s hardware shop, attacked him with a sickle (koita) following a business-related conflict, causing him grievous injuries.The prosecution examined 14 witnesses in support of the case. Principal sessions judge Sherin G Paul observed that the nature of the weapon used, and the severity of the injuries clearly established Bharat’s intention that his actions were likely to result in death.“The consistent and clinching evidence regarding the manner in which the attack was carried out proves beyond reasonable doubt that the accused attempted to commit murder,” the judge observed.
