Kanpur: A one-year-old girl died on Friday morning in Kanpur after her father allegedly tried to drown her in a tub of cold water, suspecting his wife of illicit relations. Police sent the infant’s body for post-mortem and said a case would be registered after the report. The mother and her family members reached the in-laws’ house in Rawatpur with the body and created an uproar, accusing the husband of murdering the daughter. The woman dialled 112 and informed police. On being informed, Rawatpur police station force reached the spot. Rawatpur police station in-charge Kamlesh Rai said action will be taken on the basis of complaint by the family. Woman’s mother Madhu said that her daughter had an affair with Gopal, a rickshaw driver who used to drop and pick her and they married on Sept 16, 2024 in court. She stated that six months after marriage, Ruchi gave birth to a daughter. After the birth, Gopal allegedly started beating Ruchi and said the daughter was not his. tnn
