Kanpur: In a fit of rage, a man in Kanpur’s Panki area allegedly beat his wife, locked their kids in a room, and forced her to drink dye after she objected to his habitual drinking. He fled the scene after her condition deteriorated.On being alerted, police rushed the woman, identified as 30-year-old Ritu, to a hospital, where her condition remained critical.According to the police, Dhaniram, a private employee from Gangaganj in Panki, frequently came home drunk and picked fights with his wife and beat her. When his daughter Naina (8) and sons Nayan and Rishabh intervened, he would beat them too.Naina alleged that on Saturday afternoon, her drunk father started beating her mom when she objected. When she and her siblings tried to intervene, he beat them too and locked them in a room. Police said Dhaniram then bought dye used for colouring clothes, forced his wife to drink it mixed with water, and fled when her condition worsened.The kids somehow managed to escape, alerted neighbours, and called 112. Police rushed to the scene and got the woman admitted to a private hospital.Panki Station in-charge Manoj Singh Bhadauria said, “There was a dispute between the couple. After the dispute, the husband forcibly made her drink dye. Action will be taken upon receiving the complaint.”
