Man battered to death with stone after spat, 1 held

Noida: A man was arrested for murder on Thursday after he allegedly struck another man with a stone and dumped him into a drain following an argument over Rs 1,500 in Sector 64 earlier the same day.According to police, accused Ravindra and the victim, Rahul (35), were daily wage workers who were living on the footpath in Sector 64. Around 9am on Thursday, Ravindra noticed that Rs 1,500 were missing from his pocket. Suspecting that Rahul had stolen it, Ravindra began questioning him. The conversation turned violent and Ravindra allegedly picked up a stone lying nearby and struck Rahul on the head. Rahul sustained a head wound and collapsed at the spot. The accused then pushed the injured man into the nearby drain, police said.Around 10am, residents spotted Rahul’s body and alerted police. A team from Phase-III police station reached the scene and brought Rahul to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination has subsequently been initiated and the exact cause of death will be determined soon once the reports clarify whether the death was caused by the head injury or drowning, police said.DCP (central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said that a forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence to aid the ongoing investigation. The initial probe led cops to Ravindra, who was taken into custody. Police said they have initiated further legal proceedings against the accused and are probing the case from all angles.An FIR is being registered in the case, cops added.
