New Delhi: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly burgling four of his maternal uncle’s shops in a single day in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka.The complainant, a resident of Uttam Nagar, reported the burglaries and claimed that four of his confectionery shops, located in Sector 18, Sector 11, Sector 12 and Sector 4, had been broken into in the early hours of Jan 31. Cash, a laptop and a mobile phone were reportedly stolen in the alleged burglary.Four separate cases under sections of the BNS were registered.“During the investigation, the complainant alleged that his nephew was behind the thefts and provided CCTV footage in which the suspect was purportedly seen breaking open the shop shutters,” said DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh.Based on the footage and technical inputs, a police team tracked the suspect across Safdarjung, Hauz Khas, Rajapuri and Dabri. Police said he frequently switched off his mobile phone to evade detection.Acting on a tip-off, the team laid a trap at Dabri fruit mandi on Feb 13 and apprehended the suspect when he arrived there on foot. He was identified as one Piyush Tulswani. Initially, he denied involvement but allegedly confessed after being confronted with the CCTV footage.Tulswani told police that he had been working at his uncle’s shop after his father died in 2022. However, he was allegedly removed from work after being caught embezzling money. Nursing a grudge and seeking revenge over a dispute regarding profits, he allegedly planned the burglaries as he was familiar with the shop locations.He is said to have used his brother’s scooter to carry out the thefts and decamped with cash, a laptop and a mobile phone. One laptop has been recovered.
