Tens of thousands of vehicles have been recalled over fears that wheels could fall off when the car is being driven.
Honda has announced a recall of its Civic models over a manufacturing defect that could cause accidents and injuries.
A recall listed with the European Commission stated that the tightening torque of the wheel nuts is too low on wheels without pressed-in hubs made of alloy steel.
If the issue is present, it could cause the nuts to come loose while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in “a risk of wheel loss, accident and injuries”.
The product does not comply with the EU Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers.
The recall registered with the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers was relevant for Germany, France, Portugal, Sweden and Slovakia.
The issue is believed to impact as many as 46,152 Honda Civic models in the UK, all of which were manufactured between 2017 and 2021.
Honda said it would contact customers in the near future, although drivers are able to submit their documents by visiting a Honda dealer.

According to Auto Express, the information will be checked, and if necessary, the issue will be rectified during an appointment.
To dispel fears from motorists, Honda confirmed that the Civic models were safe and that drivers can “continue to drive their vehicle in its current condition”.
Drivers are able to use the Honda website to see if their vehicle is part of a recall and if there is a safety-related defect.
It states that this could be due to a feature, design or construction of the vehicle that could cause “significant risk of injury to the driver or occupants of a vehicle, or to other road users”.

When using the Honda website, motorists can enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to check any outstanding recall or product update information for their car.
Honda has not announced a recall for wheel concerns in the United States, with the Japanese brand issuing just one notice.
At the end of January, it registered a recall notice with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) amid fears that the driver’s seat frame is improperly tightened.
It stated that a loose driver’s seat may not adequately restrain the motorist during an accident, increasing the risk of an accident.

As a result of the issue, the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 207 (Seating Systems).
The recall involved certain 2023 Honda Accord, Accord Hybrid, and 2024 HR-V, Pilot, and Acura Integra vehicles.
The brand will send out owner notification letters in March and replace the driver’s seat cushion frame for free.
